Boot Camp!!!

6 weeks of 805 Boot Camp is over.  I absolutely LOVED it!  I know I am on crutches but that is my fault for not listening to my body when I should have.  This Boot Camp really allowed me to get back into a routine and to establish a time of day that is mine.  Our whole family is eating healthier (minus this past weekend).  The boys eat more now.  I don’t want to lose what we have started.  I have joined 24 Hour Fitness and started swimming for cardio since that is no impact on my knee.  Plus I am continuing to work on my upper body and core.  So when I can get back to trail runs and such I will be ready.

I am stronger, faster and have a lot more endurance than I did 6 weeks ago.  I lost 5 lbs and 9 total inches.  I also lost 3.3% body, look more toned (especially in my arms) and I love that I just feel a lot healthier.  Here are some fun pictures from boot camp.

Simi Valley Blues and Cajun Festival

Another year, another Cajun Festival.  This has got to be one of my favorite festivals of the year in Southern California.

festival4

The boys had fun listening to the music and jumping in the jump houses.  Only downfall (not mean literally) is that we witnessed two little girls fall off the slide from about 15-20 feet high.  After seeing that, we opted for the jumpers only.

It is always fun trying new food like spicy shrimp ceviche, alligator on stick, jambalaya, etc.  There is so much food to chose from.  The music was great and the people watching, even better.  And it’s also fun to hang out with the gators :)

We hung out with the Olson’s as we did last year as well.

And I am still burnt from this day!  This is even with putting sunscreen on 4 times.  Nice tan line, huh?!

The weekend went by way too fast.  We were so glad to have Stephanie and Jason come out and spend time with us.  Hopefully we don’t wait a year to see each other but if so, we know we have a standing date!  :)  Love ya!

Double Date!

We had a nice double date with Stephanie and Jason Friday night.  We decided to spend the evening in Malibu.

We started off at Malibu Wines

It is such a fun place to hang out.  The scenery is awesome BUT it was freezing cold.  Well maybe technically not freezing but I swear I couldn’t feel my toes.  We ate a picnic and had nice wine while enjoying the music from a local band.

After the band ended, we headed over to Dukes for dinner.  We have never been there before but I have heard many great reviews from there and it is on the beach.  Issue again: cold!  So there wasn’t a lot of people there and wasn’t what we expected.   dukesdukes2

After a late dinner, we had a short stroll on the beach. Short: yes, it was COLD!

After that we stopped at Padri in Agoura for a nightcap.  And this had to be the best people watching I’ve seen for a while.  It was a very fun but interesting place.  It started off with a girl flirting with me and trying to hump my leg followed by two girls trying to pick Scott up even after seeing he was married!  Wow, these single girls are ruthless.  Other than those faux pas, it was rather fun. It was a good story nonetheless.   I don’t think I have stayed out that late in years.  I guess we were trying to keep up with the “20 somethings” lol.

Visitors!

Thursday morning Stephanie and Jason flew in to spend Memorial Day weekend with us. They came last year at this time and had such a great time, we hope it will be an annual thing. After a few errands like getting this thing:

 handi

We were off to have some fun.  Side note: I never thought I would be happy to have a handicap sticker.  But after a week on crutches, I am ready for shorter walks.  After my doctor appointment on Thursday, my doctor thinks I will be on crutches closer to 12 weeks than 8.  Hopefully he is wrong!

We took the boys to Big Z’s for pizza and games.  This never gets boring to them :)  Then we hit the Farmer’s Market for some fresh produce.  I love fresh veggies and fruit!

And then onto the adult fun of the evening…..next post!

Good bye Gramma, Grandpa and Auntie Kelly

It is very typical of us to go to the park before family leaves.  Here are some pictures before taking them back to the airport!
Harry did not want to take a picture!

Well that is unless you are flying planes!

The dropoff was extremely hard this time. William is so sensitive.  He had to keep getting more hugs and kisses good-bye.  And then he went into total sob mode for at-least 45 minutes!

Disney!

Where do we L O V E to go?!  Disneyland of-course!  We went back when Scott’s family was in town.  After the boys got out of school, we took them there and didn’t get home until after 1am. Needless to say, we made the most of our day!  I will admit it felt really odd having fun that day.  My dad had a massive heart attack that day and I was communicating with my family while my dad was in ICU.  It is extremely hard being so far away from family and not being able to do anything about that or be with them when it is the most important.  He had 3 blockages and one was 99% blocked.  The doctor said that he should not have lived through it.  He had a stint put in and was in ICU for 3 days.  Luckily, God was with him and protected him.  He is home now and recovering well.  Thank you all for your prayers for him.

And I notice I don’t have any pictures of  Grandpa and Gramma!

New Friends

Belle likes to bask in the sun in the front yard daily.  One day she was barking so we went to check it out and found this!turtle

Belle made a new friend.  Who knows how long it took this guy to come up to  her but obviously he was just as intrigued with Belle as she was with him.  It is our neighbor’s turtle and it got out so where else does it go than to play with the dog across the street?!  ha.

Scott’s 33!

Scott’s 33 and that means everyone is either 32 (my age) or 33 according to Harry.  Scott birthday fell on Mother’s Day this year.  Scott was born on Mother’s day so it was very special to spend the day with his mom.

The boys helped me decide on a cake again this year.  It didn’t turn out as well as I was anticipating.  Especially when I was placing the image on and noticed that the driver was Martin Truex and not Jamie McMurray.  Scott’s favorite driver is Jamie McMurray (who drives the Bass Pro car) and for some reason the company that makes the images never updated the driver!  Crazy. Scott still loved it and William had to place a race track around the cake.

This is a picture of Scott reading the best, most funniest, birthday card of all time.  Honestly, I don’t know how I took a picture because we were all laughing extremely hard.  Leave it to Scott’s sisters that if they can’t find a card about boogers each year, they step up to flatulence!

the best card will and dad

It was a nice birthday for Scott and we were glad to spend it with family.  It is always nice to get to spend celebrations with family from “home.”

Mother's Day 2012

Mother's Day fell on Scott's birthday this year.  After church, we went to Old Susana to eat.  It is a cute little restaurant walking distance from our house.  It is also where we had Mother's Day brunch last year.  It was nice to sit on the patio and enjoy the perfect weather.

After brunch we headed to our favorite Sunday afternoon activity, the beach!  Unfortunately, it was cold!!!!
I didn't know if I should share this picture of William but it still cracks me up.

And I loved this picture of the boys with their Auntie.

After Scott's birthday celebration, I opened my gifts from the boys.  I got a beautiful orchid and a new pair of work out clothes.  Harry made me a very pretty flower vase (made out of a wine bottle) with a gerber daisy in it.  William made me a pretty purse and a beautiful butterfly necklace and a certificate for him to feed Miss Belle.  How cute are these little darlings?!  I am so extremely lucky to be a mom.  Here we are, me and my three babies!

My new mode of transportation!

crutches

Yep, for 8 weeks!  I have:

1. Marrow Edema: basically a bone bruise

2. Crack in my Tibia

3. Stress Fracture in my Tibia

4. Stress Fracture in my Femur

5. Chondromalica patella: “softening of cartilage”

6. Ruptured Baker’s cyst: “ruptured joint fluid behind knee cap.”

Basically as my doctor said, “a very broken knee!”

How did I do this?  Two weeks ago while running, my knee really swelled up and hurt.  For the following week, I iced it about 7-8 times a day it hurt so badly.  It would lock up and feel like it was going to give out.  I still went to boot camp but I also knew my limitations while working out and did not run as much or hard.  Last week I finally got into the doctor and he gave me anti-inflammatories and sent me for an MRI.  I have been icing, elevating, taking anti-inflammatories and wearing a knee brace.  I did NOT however, stop working out.  This past week it hurt but felt like it was getting better so I thought it was just inflammation (or was hoping so).  I was even so proud of myself that I knocked off almost one and a half minutes off my original mile run.  I was obviously feeling good.  So I went back to the doctor yesterday for my MRI results and he asked me, “how in the world are you walking?”  So he thinks that I started with a stress fracture and since I continued to work out on it, I totally tore it up.

I cannot put any weight on it for 8 weeks.  He wants me to use a scooter.  Can you see that with two kids?!  I don’t think so. I go back next week because the scans weren’t in yet and he is afraid that if my written report is so bad, what do the actual scans look like?

William is following me around like a fly with these crutches making sure I am not walking.  What fun!  I don’t think so.

A normal Thursday

Surprise Surprise!

For a month I kept the secret that Scott’s Mom, Dad and sister were coming to visit for his birthday.  I almost slipped or thought he figured it out but he was clueless.  Scott’s birthday fell on Mother’s Day this year and the year Scott was born, it fell on Mother’s Day.  It was nice to be together.  Scott ended up having to go into work on Saturday but thought he would be home after 12pm.  That worked out great since his family arrived at 10am.  This would give us time to pick them up, get the rental car, etc.  Well Scott was so clueless that he kept stopping after work to do errands.  He finally made it home after 3pm!  He walked into the backyard to see the boys and was surprised to find a few more visitors :)  He was completely shocked!

 surprise surprise

We went to Los Toros for dinner.  This was Kelly’s first experience with Los Toros.  Who doesn’t love Fernando?!  Los Toros

Kelly also brought me a little present.  A cute little wine stopper.  How fitting is that?  I love that I caught the picture while Kelly was blinking lol.
